From the Nights: Yolanda Ajak, “Untitled”

This poem was read by its author, Yolanda Ajak, at the March 2 Spittoon Poetry Night

I am sitting here trying to write
About what comes to mind.
But nothing seems to be
coming to mind except
the very thought of trying
to think of what could
possibly come to mind
Pardon my anticipation
Of thing coming to mind
But as moments pass
I am beginning to wonder
If it’s the thing that doesn’t come to mind
Or if its the mind that does not come to a thing
Either way, what I know for certain
Is that my existence is built
On the relationship between
Mind and things
But if things don’t have minds
Than how do minds have things
Well this is certainly a thing to mind
