Spittoon Monthly - Poetry

Spittoon Monthly, our online fiction and poetry series, selects and publishes one exceptional set of poems or one short story every month. Submit your poetry through the form below. If you have any questions, please direct them here.

Poetry submissions should be 3-5 poems of no more than 10 pages. Original translations into English with permission of the author are also welcomed.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please notify us if your work has been accepted elsewhere. Please only send us one submission at a time and include all poems in one document.

We accept submissions all year. We will do our best to reply to submissions within two months.

Your work will remain yours; we ask only for first time publication and the right to archive your work on our website.

We are not able to compensate our writers at this time.

What is Spittoon?

Spittoon is a Beijing-based arts collective that produces events and programming throughout China and publishes Spittoon Literary Magazine, all with the goal of bringing together Chinese and foreign writers, artists, and literary enthusiasts. We host regular literature events every Thursday in Beijing and a music-poetry collab event called Spittunes, as well as events in Shanghai, Xi'an, and Gothenberg, Sweden.

The Spittoon Literary Magazine is a biannual publication dedicated to bringing Chinese writing and art to an English-language audience. Our unique team of Western and Chinese writers seeks out, translates, and publishes China's best, most exciting new voices.
